With current lockdown and school closures, our house-bound kids are spending much more time in front of their screens. With this ‘new’ reality comes the ever-lasting concern with our kids online safety. As parents, we need to make sure our kids are empowered with the necessary education to help them navigate the digital world safely. To this end, we are sharing with you this helpful app from Google called Family Link designed specifically for parents and is part of Be Internet Awesome resources.
Family Link helps you maximize the safety of your kids as they interact with the digital world. It lest you view the amount of screen time they spend on their favourite apps giving you thus important insights on how your child is using their time on their devices. You have the option to set time limits and remotely lock their devices. It also enables you to manage your kids apps’ downloads and purchases. For instance, you can approve or block apps and hide particular apps from their devices (this does not work with some pre-installed apps). Another key feature provided by Family Link is the ability to locate your child when they are outside provided they have their devices with them and are ‘powered on, recently active, and connected to the Internet’.
